Change Through the Decades

One might think that when one social club began to integrate, the other social clubs were not far behind. The data that the yearbooks provide tell another story. They tell a story of how integration was a slow process that took several years, even decades. 

 

This project documents the number of women that were present in each social club, by counting the faces that are present in the Meh Lady yearbooks. Each woman's race was documented in order to track the rate of integration in the social clubs and in the senior class at Mississippi State College for Women (MSCW). This website presents the data that was collected, as well as a brief discussion of each social club from 1966-1990.
